Hon Jonathan Vatsa, former commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Niger State has expressed concern over the outcome of the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Vatsa, who spoke on his 64th birthday, said he is worried about the roles of the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the general elections.
The former publicity secretary of APC in Niger State also said that what gave him more concern was the rift within the party that could happen in his party, APC which he said would be more dangerous to the party than opposition parties.
“The delay in the announcement of the results of the primary elections by the APC almost two months after they were conducted showed that the party was in a fix,” he said.
“The day APC will announce the results, that will be the beginning of the mother of all crisis in the party,” Vatsa said, saying the opposition within will begin.
He alleged that the consensus arrangements in Niger State for instance was more or less an Imposition of the candidates against the will of the people which he advised that if not well handled would boomerang at the end.
He said “that does not in anyway show justice, equity and fairness” and that there was no justification and fairness in allowing someone who was going for a sixth term in office and disallowing someone who is seeking a second term.
