The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, will not stop vote buying in the 2027 election because Nigerian politicians are too desperate.

Primate Ayodele in a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, said: “If EFCC really wants to arrest people who are engaged in vote buying, it means that 98 per cent of the electorate and candidates will have to be arrested, which is totally impossible.

He said politicians have found a way to weaponise poverty in this country, and use it to their advantage in elections.

The man of God said because of the economic hardship, most Nigerians are willing to sell their conscience for a meagre amount of money.

He said, “EFCC cannot stop vote buying in Nigeria. But it will be a lot in the 2027 election with the threats, because our politicians are too desperate.

“If the EFCC or security operatives want to arrest people involved in vote buying, they should be ready to take in 98 percent of the electorate and candidates because there is no candidate that will not be involved in it.

“If you are talking about vote buying, most Nigerians would be sleeping in EFCC custody on the election day, it is practically impossible to end it in Nigeria.

“Because politicians have learned how to weaponise hardship and poverty. “Many Nigerians can’t feed their homes, some can’t afford one square meal, for such a person, vote buying looks like a miracle for him or her.”

The man of God said that if vote buying must stop in Nigeria, the country must be better economically to some extent, so that citizens can afford basic things.

“The only way to stop vote buying is to make Nigeria a better country economically. If people can afford food and other basic things then no politician will be able to convince them to vote for him by giving them money. “If not, it will go on forever,” he said.
