The Presidency has rejected claims of widespread hunger across Nigeria, saying many citizens are benefitting from the policies and programmes introduced by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stated this during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday. It was learnt that
He said that several government projects and economic measures were already making positive impact in the lives of Nigerians.
The administration’s policies are working, he said, citing recent infrastructure development and access to financial support for workers.
He said that many of the allegations on widespread hunger is not consistent with what he sees when he relates with people.
“I talk to people around me often and I don’t think that the picture painted by some critics is the full experience of all Nigerians,” the presidential aide said.
He also spoke about the rise in the national minimum wage in the Tinubu administration, stating that the government’s decision to hike the wage level has seen workers earn much more than before.
It’s like back to the early days of this government,” he said. “I think the president went to Lagos I think he was coming from a central mosque and somebody now did a voice over in “Ebi pawa” and that means we are hungry. Since then people have been saying we are hungry.
‘I am a Nigerian, I have people working for me privately. I don’t see that level of one hunger that you guys talk about because I see them and I keep asking questions. How are you doing? How do they handle it? What are the issues?
