The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Plateau State chapter has been plunged into further confusion as the faction of the party led by Tanimu Turaki, on Wednesday, presented a Certificate of Return to Sunday Garba Biggs as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Plateau State governorship election.
This is coming after the faction led by former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday presented a Certificate of Return to its preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The certificate was presented to Biggs in a ceremony after a meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party loyal to Turaki, which met with state chairmen, party elders, members of the Board of Trustees, BOT, governorship candidates and other stakeholders from across the country.
Biggs said that the Certificate of Return formally places the responsibility of leading the PDP’s governorship campaign in Plateau State on him and he expressed his delight and satisfaction at receiving it.
Through the presentation, the PDP has shown confidence in his ability to provide purposeful leadership and lead policies that will promote good governance, peace and sustainable development across the state, he said.
Stakeholders and party faithful at the event also described Biggs as a leader with the vision and capacity to unite the people and build on the developmental aspirations of Plateau citizens.
The presentation of the certificate is a major step in the PDP’s preparation for the 2027 elections but political observers in the state have pointed out that the party is on the verge of repeating the same mistake it made in the 2023 election which led to the Appeal court sacking all its elected lawmakers for not following the rules.
