In the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, Efeyi village was assaulted by suspected armed herdsmen on Tuesday, killing several locals.

According to local reports, the early-morning attack claimed the lives of over ten persons and injured numerous more.

Additionally, an unknown number of locals were reported missing, which led young people in the neighborhood to start looking in the neighboring bushes.

Farmers were getting ready to leave their homes for their crops when the attackers broke into the village, according to the locals.

Many neighbors reportedly fled for their lives as a result of the attackers’ indiscriminate gunfire.

Concerns concerning frequent attacks on rural villages in Benue State, where armed groups have killed locals and uprooted families in recent years, were raised by the occurrence.

Leadership claims that attempts to get a response from Ogiri Maxwell, the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, were fruitless.

He did not return calls or texts about the attack.

Officers were sent to the locality, according to DSP Edet Udeme, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, who confirmed the occurrence.

“The police are aware of an attack that took place in a community early today. Officers have been sent to the scene. They are taking the required actions to bring the situation under control and start a comprehensive inquiry, according to Udeme.

He continued by saying that the leadership was keeping an eye on the issue and will release more details once investigators determined the attack’s circumstances.
