The new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Segun Aina, has assumed duty as the head of the Board promising to build on the achievements of the Board with an ambitious development agenda.

The agenda is meant to position JAMB as Africa’s most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions institution.

“It was a homecoming and a solemn responsibility,” said Professor Aina, who took up duty on his first day in office.

He promised to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, with innovations, stronger institutional systems and renewed commitment to excellent service delivery.

The new Registrar, in a statement issued by JAMB’s acting Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, presented his strategic blueprint titled “JAMB 2031: Establishing Trust, Reducing Trauma.

He said the five-year development agenda (2026-2031) is built around Project 2:5:7 which consists of two strategic objectives, five enduring pillars and seven flagship initiatives, to transform the Board into a globally respected institution driven by technology, integrity and stakeholder confidence.

The agenda, he said, is based on JAMB’s statutory mandate to facilitate fair, transparent, credible, secure and equal access to tertiary education through registration, credible assessments and placement of qualified candidates on merit.”

Prof. Aina restated his vision of making JAMB Africa’s most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions body, emphasizing that the credibility of the Board would continue to rest on strong systems, institutional values and long-lasting partnerships, not on individuals.

Five pillars to drive the next stage
The Registrar said the agenda would be implemented through five enduring pillars, which are intended to strengthen the institution and improve the experience of candidates and other stakeholders.

The first pillar, The Foundation, emphasizes the need to raise institutional credibility by following internationally recognized standards such as ISO 27001 certification, conducting independent technology reviews, and implementing verifiable systems that guarantee transparency, accountability, and public trust.
The second pillar, Service – The Heart, is about transforming customer experience through responsive service delivery, transparent communication, proactive stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement at all points of interaction with candidates, parents, institutions and the public.
Under the third pillar, Governance – The Framework, the Board seeks to enhance institutional governance by improving performance monitoring, efficient contract management, operational resilience and internal accountability mechanisms to ensure that programmes are delivered on time and in accordance with established standards.
The fourth pillar, Technology – The Enabler, underscores innovation as the fulcrum of the future of JAMB. The Board will create and incorporate its internal technology infrastructure by utilizing scalable digital platforms to support mobile services, web applications, printing systems and sophisticated artificial intelligence and data analytics for decision-making and service delivery.
The fifth pillar, Partnerships – The Multiplier, acknowledges that institutional success is a shared effort and seeks to enhance collaboration with financial institutions, including fintech firms, educational bodies and global partners to foster innovation, enhance service delivery and broaden opportunities for stakeholders.
Seven Key Projects
Prof. Aina announced seven flagship initiatives to be undertaken in the next five years to translate the agenda into tangible results. These include; a holistic independent technology review of JAMB’s infrastructure; attainment of ISO 27001 Information Security Certification; development of a single JAMB mobile app; strategic communication and brand repositioning; establishment of a single customer service platform; implementation of a paperless, enterprise-wide digital administration system; and improved staff welfare and capacity development.

The Registrar said the initiatives were put in place to make JAMB more responsive, digitally integrated, secure and efficient and to improve public confidence in the operations of the Board.

Leadership That is People-Centred
Prof. Aina said technology would be the engine of JAMB’s transformation, but people would remain its greatest asset.

He said that every registration is a reflection of the aspirations of a young Nigerian and the sacrifices of parents and guardians, assuring the candidates and stakeholders that his administration will continue to make the processes easier, improve communications and ensure that fairness, transparency and integrity are the hallmarks of the Board.

He also called for innovation, professionalism and teamwork from staff, stating that institutions become great when their people are united by shared values and a common purpose.

As the JAMB begins this new chapter, Prof. Aina reiterated his determination to create more robust systems that will outlive individuals, deepen the public trust and make the Board a global benchmark in technology-driven examination and admissions administration.
