Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, was finally taken into custody by EFCC agents for allegedly embezzling money, months after he was first listed as wanted.
Ripples Nigeria learned that Bello was taken to the anti-graft agency’s Abuja office on Tuesday morning by state Governor Usman Ododo, capping months of eluding arrest and an official standoff, despite conflicting reports regarding the arrest’s process. Bello is currently being interrogated by commission agents.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling dismissing the states’ appeal against the legitimacy of the anti-graft body, he visited the commission.
The Supreme Court’s decision to reject a lawsuit from several states contesting the anti-graft agency’s legitimacy to investigate former governors and administrations led to Bello’s detention.

Bello was also arrested after a hearing on November 14 in which the EFCC requested an extension until November 27 in a new lawsuit it had filed against him. The suit had a 30-day window for Bello to make arrangements in response to the summons that had previously been issued.
The Federal Capital Territory High Court Maitama in Abuja’s Justice Maryanne Anenih heard new allegations against the former governor at the most recent hearing. The EFCC requested an adjournment until Wednesday, November 27.
