Delta State’s Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area is in sorrow after the passing of Pa James Oghoroko, the community’s president-general.
According to reports, Oghoroko, one of the leaders detained by the Nigerian military since August 2024, passed away as a result of torture and alleged cruel treatment while in military custody.
Between August 18 and August 20, the late Oghoroko was detained along with Professor Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, Dennis Okugbaye, Pa Anthony Ahwemuria, and Mrs. Rita Akata. Since then, he has been held in custody.
At an emergency gathering in the community, Okuama leaders broke the news of Oghoroko’s passing, according to Vanguard.
Another leader under military captivity, Pa Dennis Okugbaye, is fighting for his life in the unidentified military facility, according to information released by the Community.

Olorogun Albert Akpomudje SAN, the main counsel, responded to the news of Oghoroko’s passing by calling it devastating and stating that he will meet with the family to determine what to do next.
After the Okuama community was demolished and destroyed following the deaths of 17 soldiers, the community, represented by attorneys Olorogun Albert Akpomudje (SAN) and others, went to the Federal High Court in Warri to seek compensation.
The suits, FHC/WR/CS/41/2024, FHC/WR/CS/42/2024, and FHC/WR/CS/42/2024, were filed by the community through its knowledgeable counsel and are now combined.
The bail application of the arrested leaders was postponed until December 9, 2024, so that the Federal High Court may consider the motion during its most recent session on November 20, 2024.
