In the 2027 general elections, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor of Ogun State, has stated his desire to run against the current government in an attempt to remove President Bola Tinubu from office.
Speaking at the town hall gathering of the North Central National Opposition Movement in Jos, Plateau State, Sowunmi voiced his dissatisfaction with the state of politics in Nigeria, pointing out that a paradigm change is necessary for the nation to abandon antiquated methods of leadership.
Low voter turnout and the propensity of certain voters to sell their ballots are causes for concern. Instead than letting a small number of people hold all the power, every person should actively engage in the political process in a democracy.
The movement encourages people to create their own political institutions and back politicians who share their values and needs in order to give them the authority to take charge of the political process.
A more inclusive and productive political environment will be promoted by giving citizens the ability to choose and back candidates who truly reflect their interests through the creation of an alternative platform.

He asserted that it is the duty of all citizens to work together to shape their government in order to guarantee that democracy benefits all people, not just a select few.
Since the campaign is presented as a liberation struggle for all citizens, regardless of their socioeconomic background, the former PDP guber candidate urged people to band together in demanding improved government and to reject the idea that politics is solely for a chosen few.
“Nigerian politics need to be fundamentally reevaluated and reformed because the country’s current system has not been able to adequately serve the people.
“Citizens must participate actively in politics as voters and change agents if democracy is to flourish. Rejecting unethical behavior and holding leaders accountable are two examples of this,” he continued.
