After suspected Boko Haram militants attacked Borno State’s Nganzai Police Division, two policemen from the Borno State Police Command were killed.
The incident took place on Wednesday at approximately 12:10 a.m., according to a statement issued on Thursday by ASP Nahum Daso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
According to the statement, “Unknown gunmen who were thought to be Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade Nganzai Police Division at approximately 12:10 am.” After a number of gunfights, the brave officers on duty drove the terrorists back.
According to Daso, two officers were injured when the terrorists hurled hand grenades during the attack.
Daso stated that two cops were fatally wounded when the terrorists’ hand grenades went off and landed on a shelter tent behind the division.
Yusufu Lawal, the Commissioner of Police for the Borno State Police Command, paid a visit to the station, he stated.
Lawal gave the families of the fallen cops his sympathies and praised the officers for their courage.
“Today, January 9, 2025, Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, psc, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Police Command, visited Nganzai Police Division, commended officers for their tenacity, and expressed condolences to the families of the two officers who lost their lives,” the statement continued.
Additionally, he mentioned that during the scene examination, the police found explosives that belonged to the terrorists.

Two hand grenades were found by the EOD-CBRN Base 13, Maiduguri, during the Commissioner of Police’s scene inspection. The State General Hospital in Maiduguri has received the deceased’s remains.
In addition to expressing his condolences to the families of the two officers who died, the Commissioner of Police praised the brave cops who resisted the onslaught.
However, the command’s commitment to guaranteeing everyone’s safety and security in the state was reaffirmed by the police spokesperson.
