For his recent remarks criticizing the Tinubu-led government of harboring more “Yahoo boys” than those being jailed for fraud, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has come under assault from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While giving a keynote speech at Nexford University’s fourth graduation ceremony last Saturday, Obi made the claim that corrupt government officials were in control of Nigeria.
Bala Ibrahim, the APC’s national publicity director, responded to Obi’s comments by calling them “wild and unsubstantiated” and saying they revealed the actions of a careless opposition leader.
In an interview with Punch, the APC leader attacked Obi for what he described as a last-ditch effort to stay relevant, contending that genuine opposition leaders make thoughtful criticisms rather than careless remarks.

“You cannot simply make wild accusations or allegations without substantiation,” he remarked. Let him provide evidence of government actions related to Yahoo in order to support your claim that Yahoo is involved in the government. You can’t just appear foolish and careless by making rash allegations after waking up from your dream.

“I believe that LP and Obi just do not comprehend what opposition is. It is the role of opposition to check the government’s policies, programs, and activities. When they see the administration veering off course, they are expected to offer constructive criticism.

The opposition is starting to lose sight of their purpose when their allegations become careless and uninformed. Your place in the opposition is a result of your failure to prepare or your lack of preparation for victory.
