According to reports, a male student in his second year at Kwara State’s University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) committed suicide as a result of financial hardships.
It was discovered that until his untimely death, the departed student had maintained a cumulative grade point average of 4.5 in the Department of Mass Communication.
According to reports, the event happened at his private home in the state capital of Ilorin’s Tanke neighborhood’s Oke-Odo neighborhood.
Sources close to the campus community told Channels Television that the student’s financial difficulties were the cause of his suicide.
It was also disclosed that the student’s mother, a retired schoolteacher, had taken up the financial burden of his schooling after the loss of his father a number of years prior.
When he returned to school last year, the deceased, who was a student at the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), began to experience financial troubles. As a result, his classmates organized a fundraiser to help pay for his tuition and provide him food.

But according to reports, the student decided to consume a toxic chemical last weekend, right after his roommate left for class. He wrote a statement to his roommate explaining his choice, citing his incapacity to handle his financial difficulties.
When he got back from lectures and realized what was going on, his roommate sounded the alarm.
The event was reported to reporters in Ilorin on Tuesday by a top administrative official from the institution who asked not to be named.
The incident has left the university community and its students in a sense of sadness, he said, calling it disturbing.
