Ahead of the federal elections in 2027, Vice President Kashim Shettima has jokingly warned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to expect more verbal communication.

According to accounts, this was spoken at a symposium in Abuja by Nigeria’s second citizen.

He was honoring a number of dignitaries, including Atiku, the PDP’s 2023 presidential contender, at the celebration of former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi’s 60th birthday.

Shettima joked that he was an “adjunct provocateur” who gave Atiku “hot shots” in the 2023 presidential contest.
He recognized, though, that Atiku had handled the criticisms well because he was a renowned senior statesman.

Shettima revealed, notably, that in their private conversations, he lovingly calls Atiku “Baba,” which translates to “father” in Hausa.

Shettima jokingly said that Atiku should prepare himself for more verbal insults in the future, even with this cute phrase.

The audience considered this exchange amusing, and Atiku smiled as he spoke.

Shettima also urged all leaders to unite during his speech, irrespective of their party affiliations.

He underlined that African leaders have to rely less on foreign projects and more on indigenous development plans.

In addition to adhering to foreign models, African leaders have also refused to break free from client-state mindsets and governance through hashtag activism, which is a tragedy of our day.

“Regardless of the disparities that exist throughout the continent, the reality that we live in the age of machines cannot be undermined by internal strife.

Additionally, while the rest of the world is using tanks and missiles to combat our development challenge, we cannot fight it with spears and arrows. According to Shettima, the world is not waiting for Africa to catch up.
