Concerns about the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the continuing actions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been voiced by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.
In a lengthy tweet published on Tuesday through his official X handle, El-Rufai stated that it is too soon to begin
With the current administration only two years into its term, they are discussing the general elections in 2027.
But the APC leader claimed that the current affairs in the ruling party, to which he belonged, are making him say things he doesn’t want to say.
According to the former governor, it is premature to discuss the 2027 elections less than two years into our first term, but what
is taking place in the political sphere is compelling me to address it because, as they say, “a stitch in time saves nine.”
It goes without saying that, as an APC member, I would like to see my party gain reelection in 2027. I do have some worries, though, as a realist.
When I observed how our party was conducting the 2019 party primaries, I commented that if the party wasn’t careful, it would end up like the PDP, which lost power after 16 years.
At the time, I projected that we might lose federal power by 2031 if we didn’t revert to the progressive route and ideology that we had pledged and instead continued to be fixated on winning elections at all costs, much like the PDP.
I never imagined that under Tinubu, we would find ourselves in this predicament.
Speaking further on the events in the APC and the nation as a whole, El-Rufai said he never thought things would go that way.
He wrote: “We weren’t dealing with the current circumstances when I wrote that. Under President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I must admit, I never thought we would find ourselves in this predicament so quickly.

Less than two years into his term, we have seen how the North and President Bola Tinubu—or more specifically, his administration—are rapidly losing ground due to the actions and statements of, regrettably, a large number of people from the president’s clan and geopolitical zone. The truth is
“I have read and heard the haughty posturing and braggadocio of some people, whom I call political rabble-rousers, but I am growing increasingly concerned every day as it continues to resemble a previously seen film.”
“May I remind some people that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration’s performance—or lack thereof—more than anything else, it was his and those around him’s attitude toward the North that ultimately brought him down, and consequently the PDP, which had bragged that it would rule Nigeria for 60 years.
Despite General Muhammadu Buhari Rtd’s popularity and the assembly of political heavyweights under the then-newly formed APC, one major factor that contributed to the defeat of former President Jonathan and the PDP in the 2015 presidential election was the underestimation of the North and the insults and disrespects directed towards it. This was especially noticeable under the then-first lady and was emphasized by elements from the South South geopolitical zone, especially his Ijaw kinsmen, many of whom had little to no political clout and were living full-time in the NICON and Sheraton hotels in Abuja at the time (with newly discovered free money).

It’s funny to see that many of these people had little to no influence over Jonathan’s victory in 2011.
In his post titled “SOUTH WEST, TINUBU’S SUPPORTERS PLAYING WITH FIRE,” El-Rufai added, “Many of them actually forgot that it was the agitation by groups like the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), led by members like Pastor Tunde Bakare, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Mr. Yinka Odumakin (RIP), and co. that ultimately led to then-VP Goodluck Jonathan becoming the acting President in the first place after the incapacitation of former President Shehu Musa Yaradua (God rest his soul).”
