Former military leader Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida was crucial to President Bola Tinubu’s political career, as he has revealed.
IBB is a leader, father, and uncle, according to Tinubu, who also added that the former military commander inspired others to enter politics.
The Nigerian leader reportedly made the submission on Thursday during a speech at the presentation of IBB’s autobiography, “A Journey in Service.”
“General Ibrahim Babangida, you inspire some of us; without you, people like me wouldn’t be in politics,” President Tinubu remarked.
He went on to say that IBB encouraged young, energetic individuals like him to enter politics since it was a visionary leader.
As a sitting military leader, Tinubu recalled an incident in which he addressed IBB. People were afraid he would be imprisoned for his remarks, but they were astonished when Babangida came out and praised him for his courage.
Ibrahim Babangida, the former military president of Nigeria, revealed that the June 12 presidential election was canceled for “national interest” thirty-two years after the historic annulment.
The disclosure was reportedly made by IBB in Abuja on Thursday, February 20, 2025, during the presentation of his autobiography, “A Journey in Service.”
He said that it was in the national interest and survival of the nation to call off the election, which was generally assumed to have been won by businessman Chief Moshood Abiola as a Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate.
