Five people have been killed and over fifty individuals, including women and children, have been kidnapped by bandits in Zamfara State in a new wave of violent attacks.
The attacks have gotten more intense since the Chief of Army Staff’s recent visit, according to Leadership.
The siege has spread to at least ten communities in six local government areas: Anka, Maru, Kaura-Namoda, Zurmi, Bukkuyum, and Gusau.
Four children, two in each council, were killed when robbers reportedly overran the local government areas of Gummi and Gusau and abducted a number of locals.
Vice Chairman of the Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Hon. Bala Muhammad Majidadi, is one of the people kidnapped.
In recent weeks, attacks had decreased, and Zurmi people had started to feel relieved. However, the bandits have returned to their vicious ways and attacked several settlements again.
In the meantime, the military is reporting successes in their campaign against bandit strongholds as part of Operation Hadarin Daji.

Kachalla Na Faransa, Kachalla Bokolo, Kachalla Sani Bannuwa, and Sani Black are among the seven infamous bandit leaders who have been killed in recent operations, according to Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Center.
During the military onslaught, several of the more than fifty men under their leadership were killed or seriously injured.
Furthermore, the most recent operation has eliminated more than 40 bandit camps. With the words, “The battle against banditry will continue until they are completely eliminated,” Lt. Col. Abdullahi reiterated the military’s resolve to eliminating the militants.
