In Anambra State, Nigeria, a fire outbreak has destroyed portions of the Onitsha Main Market.
The fire has spread to an adjacent building after allegedly beginning at one of the structures at around 6:20 a.m.
As at the time this report was written, the cause of the fire was still unknown.
On the ground, however, locals, onlookers, and firefighters were observed attempting to recover some items and property from the structure.
The incident was verified in a brief statement on Friday by Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of the Anambra State Fire Service’s Media and Publicity Unit.
As the firefighters attempt to put out the fire, Chiketa asked the public and locals to maintain their composure.

As of right now, the Nambra State Fire Service is responding to the fire that broke out at Ifejika Street near Sokoto Road in Onitsha.
“When our firefighters received the distress call at 0620 a.m. today, they deployed right away.”
He also reminded everyone that everything is in control and that they should maintain their composure.
