In a recent incident at Yanriwa Market in Benue State’s Kwande local government area, armed bandits are said to have killed five vendors and wounded seven more.
At around 3 p.m., when vendors were conducting business, the armed attackers broke into the market and started shooting intermittently, killing five people.
Lawrence Akerigba, a local resident, bemoaned in an interview with Leadership Newspaper that the federal government had broken its pledge to send more security personnel to the towns after the 2024 Christmas Day attack, which claimed the lives of more than 20 farmers.

The Anwase road, the scene of the Christmas attack and killings, has been blocked by herdsmen, he stated, and “as I am talking to you, that road is no longer passable.”
The majority of local churches, schools, and marketplaces have been closed as a result of the herdsmen’s actions, according to Akerigba.
“Nothing like that has been done up to this point,” he stated. The government has left us on our own.
Around three o’clock in the afternoon, the herders attacked Liev 1 at Usambe in Ikyurav Ya.
The excitement of selling, however, becomes violent when ranchers enter the market while people are buying and selling and begin shooting at them.
Seven people were hurt and sent to the hospital, while five people were killed instantly. There are still some missing persons, and the hunt is still going on.
