Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has called Nyesom Wike’s unwillingness to quit the party a cowardly move.
Speaking to reporters in Awka on Thursday, Nwobu said it was illogical for Wike to publicly endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration while claiming to be a PDP member.
He claimed that despite Wike’s open support for the Tinubu administration, he lacked the guts to formally defect by joining the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC.
Wike would go and get an APC membership card if he were a man enough. His insistence that he is still a member of the PDP while supporting President Tinubu makes me believe he is a coward. What contradiction is that? It is impossible to advocate for one party’s interests while claiming allegiance to another. Political honesty does not operate that way, Nwobu stated.
He added that Wike had undue power over the PDP while serving as governor, serving as the party’s alias and choosing who would be appointed to important posts.
“Wike acted in every way as though he was supporting the party at the time, but it is now obvious that he had other plans. He sowed loyalists throughout the party hierarchy, especially in the National Working Committee (NWC). Nwobu said, “He pretended to be protecting the party’s interests, but in reality, he was establishing the foundation for his own political aspirations.”
He continued by saying that because of Wike’s lasting impact, it has been challenging for the party to discipline him because many of his supporters continue to hold important positions and serve as a buffer.
He was firmly establishing himself while feigning to be employed by the party. He was responsible for the positions of the majority of the former NWC members, including the secretary and national chairman. It’s been challenging to address the issue directly because he continues to maintain their allegiance through financial inducement, Nwobu stated.
Nonetheless, he pointed out that attempts have already been made to free the party from Wike’s hold.

The national secretary has already been dealt with, and he is no longer there. Others will join in. He continued, “Removing his followers from such vital roles will assist restore integrity to the PDP. The national secretary position is crucial in any party.
According to Nwobu, the National Executive Council, or NEC, will have a meeting in May to ratify the choices made by the NWC. A national convention will come next, where it is anticipated that new leadership will be revealed.
“The political coloration that has held the party hostage will be eradicated with the rise of a new leadership.” We will eventually eradicate Wike’s excessive influence,” he continued.
