In order to persuade Nigerians, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to exchange his Escalade for Innoson Motors, claiming that the Federal Government’s Nigeria First Policy is not real.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday and signed by Phrank Shaibu, Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication, “The Tinubu administration’s most recent “Nigeria First” slogan, which is being promoted by the Federal Executive Council, is just another cliched public relations gimmick that is intended to mislead rather than to deliver.” People in Nigeria are tired of meaningless speeches. This government must take economic patriotism and local content seriously from the top down.
“We demand that President Tinubu put an end to the commotion and exchange his prized Escalade for an Innoson, Nord, or any other vehicle manufactured in Nigeria.” A thousand policy documents won’t help local industry as much as that one act. The ministers, those blatant Rolls-Royce enthusiasts, should also be shown sweating it out in cars built in Nigeria. Does “Nigeria First” solely apply to the general public?In addition, it’s time for Mr. President to give up his obsession with Paris and London. Obudu Cattle Ranch, Yankari Game Reserve, or Erin Ijesha Waterfalls should be the destinations of his next trip if he is truly a patriot. Unless, of course, the President feels differently, Nigeria is a wonderful country.

More importantly, we need to put an end to the practice of traveling for medical tourism while advocating for independence. We insist that President Tinubu, the advocate of “Nigeria First,” perform all upcoming medical examinations in LUTH, National Hospital Abuja, UCH Ibadan, or even the N41 billion Naira Akwa Ibom world-class hospital in Uyo, which was constructed by an unusual transformer. Their Commander-in-Chief should have access to quality hospitals if they are adequate for regular Nigerians. Any less is blatant hypocrisy.
“The height of insincerity is this government’s addiction to foreign luxuries while requesting sacrifice from suffering Nigerians.” Setting the example is the essence of true leadership, not photo opportunities or soundbites.
“Real commitment is what Nigeria deserves, not this never-ending charade.”
