Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), unexpectedly attended a pivotal PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Abuja on Sunday, in a dramatic turn of events inside the PDP.
According to reports, he had not attended a gathering of this nature in months, as tensions and defections within the opposition party were on the rise.
Wike’s presence is noteworthy because of his pivotal involvement in the breakaway G5 faction and his ongoing support for the federal government run by the APC.

His affiliation with the ruling party has raised doubts about his commitment to the PDP, and there are rumors that he may be planning to defect.

However, Wike sat with both his present and past colleagues on Sunday, raising the possibility of a détente or a reassessment of his political style as the general elections of 2027 get near.
Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, presided over the meeting, which included numerous past state chief executives who had previously served under the party’s platform as well as six current PDP governors. Among the governors in attendance were Peter Mbah (Enugu), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo).

Notably absent was Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, who has also been suspected of favoring the APC.

Wike reached the location at approximately 9:23 PM, by which time former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), who are his G5 friends, had already seated themselves with other interested parties.

Even though the PDP had previously been divided by disagreements and fractures, his attendance at the meeting is interpreted as a sign of a potential coordinated return to dialogue within the party.
