For his remarks about President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Pat Utomi, a previous presidential candidate, has come under fire from Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.
Remember how Utomi was sued by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly trying to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s executive authority by establishing a shadow government?
Ajayi described how Utomi sought Tinubu’s support and financial backing to run as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Delta State in a post made on Friday, May 16, 2025, via his 𝕏 handle.
Tinubu only turns into a despot when people can’t get what they want from him, according to the presidential aide.
He wrote: “Every four years, and before every election, @UtomiPat will create a mega coalition and a grand illusion that always turns out to be a mirage.” This new endeavor is called Big Tent Shadow Government. In order to run for the APC governorship in Delta State, the same individual who had been disparaging President Tinubu suddenly sought his support and financial assistance. Tinubu only turns into a despot when his demands aren’t met.

The DSS has been asked by political commentator Laolu Akande to ignore Pat Utomi and concentrate on the country’s more urgent problems.
This was said by Akande in a Friday interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily in response to the security agency’s legal action against Utomi.
Nonetheless, Akande downplayed concerns about the shadow government, seeing it as a non-threatening manifestation of political ideology rather than a danger to national security.
“I would advise the DSS employees to avoid causing themselves too much trouble. The DSS has other, more pressing issues to handle. We should do it, please. Utomi is just having fun, so please leave him alone,” he remarked.
