Because of the ongoing insecurity in the state, Governor Dauda Lawal has come under fire from the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party expressed regret that under Lawal’s leadership, the state’s insecurity situation has gotten worse through its spokesperson, Yusuf Idris.
They said that the governor had not fulfilled his campaign pledge to put an end to banditry within three months of taking office.
Idris contended that while residents were still suffering from armed groups’ constant attacks, Lawal was failing to fulfill his obligations.
“Grantor Lawal must be getting ready to commemorate his second year anniversary by breaking a pledge he made during his campaigns for governor in the run-up to the 2023 elections,” Idris said.
He accused the governor of having a “nonchalant attitude,” saying that Lawal frequently left the state during times of crisis rather than demonstrating compassion and leadership.

The governor’s assertions that banditry victims receive free medical care at public hospitals were also rejected by Idris, who maintained that many victims are not given treatment because of a lack of funding.
“When I went to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, I saw firsthand how victims were turned away due to their inability to pay,” he stated.
In response to the charge, Mustafa Kaura, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, called the APC’s claims “baseless and unfounded.”
In defense of Governor Lawal’s security strategy, he maintained that great strides had been made since the current administration took office.

Nearly all of the towns were abandoned during Governor Matawalle’s leadership. According to Kaura, “people are going back to their communities today.”
He cited recent measures as crucial to lowering the scope of attacks, such as hiring civilian security guards and increasing financing for security operations.
Additionally, Kaura reminded the APC that Bello Matawalle, the Ministry of Defense and a former state governor, is now a member of the APC and shares accountability for national security.
Accusing the opposition of politicizing the state’s problems, Kaura urged them to quit shifting the blame and back continuous attempts to bring about peace.
“It is dishonorable for APC members to place all the blame on Governor Lawal, although they are well aware that he is not in charge of the security forces,” he said.
