Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, an Igbo socio-cultural organization, has criticized Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State, for his latest statement that his previous claim to be Igbo was only a political ruse.
Speaking to a group of supporters during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Aba, Abia State, in 2015, Amaechi was remembered as saying, “I am a bona fide Igbo man.” Igbo is not a language that President Jonathan, who claims to be Azikiwe, can speak. My name is Amaechi.
After ten years, Amaechi denied the earlier claim in an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television on Tuesday, claiming to be an Ikwerre guy from Rivers State.
In order to get Nigerians to respond to the Southeast’s complaints of marginalization, the former Minister of Transportation claims that he identified with the Igbo people.
In response, Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, stated in a statement released to reporters on Friday that the remarks unequivocally demonstrate Amaechi’s affiliation with dishonorable Nigerian politicians.
“It is unfortunate that someone who currently presents himself as a supporter of the masses and a lover of Nigerians could put on such a public display of shame,” Nnabuike added.
As the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has indicated that Amaechi lacks capacity, he further cautioned Nigerians and everyone who identifies with the coalition ahead of the 2027 election to be wary of him.
“When Rotimi Amaechi made such a U-turn on national television, we were absolutely shocked,” he remarked.
“In 2015, this same individual accused former President Goodluck Jonathan of not being Igbo because he (Amaechi) needed Ndigbo votes for his party, the APC.
The same individual has now admitted to lying to Nigerians in 2025, ten years after the incident.
What this demonstrates unequivocally is that Amaechi is a man who will stop at nothing to further his political agenda, including saying or doing anything.
How do we explain someone who publicly identified himself as an Igbo man ten years ago now telling the world in a shameful manner that he done so for political reasons?
This demonstrates unequivocally his affiliation with dishonorable politicians who think that everything in politics is fair.

We specifically encourage Mr. Peter Obi to be cautious around such a man. It is not appropriate for him to be seen hanging around with a man who is making fun of Ndigbo.
Such a guy should not be trusted, and it is now evident why Nyesom Wike stated unequivocally that Amaechi lacks competence.
When a man is living a life of betrayal and fabricating lies to achieve his goals, how can he be capable?
However, we want Amaechi and his kind to know that Ndigbo are not seeking individuals that are similar to him. We have a few Igbo men and women who are authentic, and we can tell when we see them.
“We are anticipating Amaechi’s visit to any South-East state in 2027 so he can reveal his lies.” We know he will undoubtedly need Ndigbo again, so we will get back to him when it’s time. Never again, we say, because we have had enough of people like him.
