Daniel Musa, a well-known member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, has voiced his displeasure with Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State and the APC’s North East zonal coordinator, for scheduling a major party gathering on a Sunday morning, which is normally a time for Christian worship.
Musa described the plan to convene the North East zonal consultative meeting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2025, as an action that appears to marginalize the party’s Christian constituency in a conversation with journalists in Jalingo on Friday.
Although Musa said he hoped the time was just an error, he warned that failing to change it could send “dangerous signals” about the party’s commitment to religious fairness and inclusivity.

“This timing is problematic,” he added. It interferes with Sunday church services, which are an essential part of Christian life. Such scheduling is unacceptable since it either shows insensitivity or intentional exclusion.

“It will give the impression that the APC does not care about its Christian members in the area if it is not fixed right away. That would strengthen the idea that the party is biased, which would be detrimental to our unity and chances of winning elections.

Musa urged the party leadership to respect the religious plurality of Nigeria and plan political events in a way that respects all religions.

He suggested a double standard by highlighting how impossible it would be to arrange a similar meeting during Friday Juma’ah prayers.

As a party for a specific faith, the APC is already struggling with perception issues. We have to be careful not to support such opinion with our behavior,” he said.

Governor Buni and the zonal leadership were asked by the APC chieftain to move the meeting to a more inclusive time that would enable both Muslim and Christian members to fully participate.
