Bode George, a PDP leader and member of the party’s board of trustees, has denied claims that Nyesom Wike’s dominance in the opposition party is reflected in the appointment of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.
In an interview with Punch on Wednesday, George insisted that the party’s needs came first and that no one person had any impact over the decision to recognize Anyanwu.
When questioned if the action indicated that the PDP had given up to Wike, George responded, “Definitely not!”
Additionally, he said, “Let’s meet at the NEC. You won’t be able to tell who is winning or losing until the NEC meets.
At the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 30, 2025, George emphasized that all unresolved matters pertaining to the role of the National Secretary will be settled.
“Every choice made at NEC is final,” he said. For reasons best known within the party, the question of Anyanwu’s reinstatement as PDP National Secretary carries a lot of implications. As an elder, I’m appealing to all parties, but especially to the irate ones. It’s time for them to relax. We’ll work out our internal issues when we meet.
“No one person can hijack the PDP structure,” the former PDP Deputy National Chairman emphasized, taking a subtle jab at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Our party is not like the APC, which is owned by a single person, he stated. All sides are being urged to consider peace. Although I must say that no one can be greater than this party, we will find a solution.
George went on to explain, “There is a saying in Yoruba land that when you prostrate for a dwarf, you will still be taller than the dwarf when you get up,” using a Yoruba proverb to support it.
Noting that the PDP needs to reorient itself in advance of the general elections in 2027, George asked all party members to cease viewing developments as a win-or-lose battle.
