Mark reportedly stated in a statement he signed on June 27 that the PDP’s leadership turmoil was the primary cause of his resignation.
According to Mark, a founding member of the PDP, the party has been ridiculed by the public due to recent events that have left it a shell of its former self, characterized by growing divisions, an ongoing leadership crisis, and irreconcilable conflicts.
Following his recent selection as one of the acting heads of the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), the former Senate President resigned.

The statement said: “I extend my warmest greetings to you and the PDP members in Otukpo Ward 1, as well as to the entire Benue State and Nigeria.” With immediate effect, I hereby formally notify you of my decision to leave the party. As you may remember, I have consistently stood firmly and steadfastly by the PDP’s principles. After we lost the 2015 presidential election, almost all of the party’s members left, but I vowed to be the last guy standing.
“I have relentlessly fought to rebuild, unite, and reposition the party. Without coming across as immodest, my efforts have helped the PDP regain its national significance and become a popular alternative for many Nigerians.
The party is now ridiculed by the public because of recent events that have left it a ghost of its former self due to growing divisions, an ongoing leadership crisis, and irreconcilable conflicts.
In an attempt to save our country and protect our hard-won democracy, I have decided to join the Nigerian National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement after extensive discussions with my family, friends, and political allies.
