When one of its auto-translation systems unintentionally announced the passing of Siddaramaiah, an Indian politician and the current chief minister of Karnataka, the tech firm Meta immediately issued an apology.
After Siddaramaiah posted a Kannada-language Instagram message on Tuesday lamenting the death of famous Indian actress B. Saroja Devi, the mistake occurred.
Mistakenly, the message was altered by the platform’s auto-translation technology to imply that Siddaramaiah had passed away.
In the faulty English translation, it was reported that the chief minister had paid tribute to the late actress after passing away.
The translation problem has been fixed, according to a statement released by Meta on Thursday.
The business pledged to remedy the issue and expressed regret for the error.
We resolved a problem that momentarily resulted in this incorrect translation into Kannada. We are sorry this occurred,” a Meta representative said.

Siddaramaiah’s office became aware of the issue and voiced concerns about Meta’s auto-translation functionality, particularly with regard to Kannada-language content.
In a letter to the business, his office said that the tool’s translations were frequently inaccurate and occasionally quite deceptive.
Such mistakes, they cautioned, might cause uncertainty, particularly when they impact government officials’ public remarks.
