Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political future is the subject of intense speculation following the recent defection of two senators from Osun State who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In separate letters dated June 21, 2025, Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) had resigned from the PDP, citing “irreconcilable differences” inside the party, according to an earlier report.
Tension has been high in the state’s PDP and APC camps since they left because many people think Adeleke will be the next to leave.

Particularly among APC candidates for governor, the announcement has sent the political world into a frenzy, with some vocally opposing Adeleke’s possible entry into the party.

According to reports, the continuous political volatility has also caused governance in Osun to stall, with government operations coming to a near complete stop in recent weeks.

Vanguard reports that Senator Iyiola Omisore, the former APC National Secretary and Deputy Governor of Osun State, responded to the escalating rumors by cautioning Governor Adeleke against what he called an attempt to “join the APC through the backdoor.”

Instead of smuggling him into the APC through some of his fellow governors, Omisore advised the governor to speak with the state’s party leaders. If neither the national chairman nor the state chairman are informed of his arrival, we party members are unsure if he will join us.

Although he acknowledged that Adeleke’s decision to join the APC cannot be stopped, Omisore emphasized the significance of appropriate political participation and consultation.

Conversely, Oladele Oyelude, the Coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Ambassadors, endorsed Adeleke’s purported plan to join the ruling party. “A big addition,” he said, the governor’s popularity might help President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.

It would be improper for party leaders—particularly those who were appointed by the president—to appear as though they are attempting to thwart Governor Adeleke’s attempt to join the APC. As of right now, he remains popular with the public, which is very beneficial for the president and the party. After we allow him to join the party, we can discuss additional interests,” he stated.
