Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, 36, the Saudi prince who is renowned as the “Sleeping Prince,” passed away after a tragic automobile accident in London left him in a coma for 20 years.
In a touching statement published on 𝕏 earlier today, July 19, his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, revealed the devastating news.
We mourn our beloved son, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who died today, he said, “with hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness.”
Prince Al Waleed was studying as a military cadet in the UK when the accident occurred, causing severe brain trauma and internal hemorrhage. He went into a coma at the age of 15.
Despite the pessimistic predictions of the doctors, his family remained optimistic and refused to remove him from life support, keeping a careful eye on him for over two decades.

When a video appeared in 2020 that appeared to show the prince moving his fingers slightly in response to a voice, offering the country and his family hope that he may recover, it briefly sparked hope throughout the kingdom.
The video, which Princess Noura bint Talal Al Saud posted, shows a woman at the prince’s bedside urging him, “Habibi, hello.” Hi there, let me see.
His hand moved slightly in response, the first and only indication of consciousness he had shown in years.
That dim hope of recuperation, though, never materialized.
Sunday is set aside for the late prince’s funeral prayers at Riyadh’s Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque.
Following Dhuhr prayers, a special women’s prayer service will be held at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital, according to local media. It has been announced that there would be a three-day period of mourning till Tuesday.
