After being attacked by unidentified attackers in Piawe, Bwari, Abuja, Akpan Blessing, a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), passed away.
Blessing was assaulted early on Tuesday morning in front of her home. Despite being brought to several hospitals, she was not given emergency medical attention since there was no police record.
According to one of her upset friends, Blessing was initially sent to Gabriel Hospital and then to St. Theresa Hospital in Bwari town, who talked to Daily Trust on Monday.
The loss of Officer Blessing, as she was affectionately known, as a result of a poor and disorganized system is heartbreaking,” she said.
You insisted on a police report before someone was sent to the hospital when she was dying. Her NSCDC identity card was presented to them, but they refused to treat her. We continued to transfer her between hospitals till her death.
In a robbery attempt, Blessing was stabbed, according to another buddy.
A few people attempted to rob her of her possessions while she was traveling. According to the acquaintance, “I suppose they had to stab her to get what they wanted.”
Blessing was eventually transported to Bwari General Hospital after suffering a substantial blood loss, where the on-duty medical staff subsequently declared her dead.
FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh told reporters that the event was not reported to the police and directed them to contact the NSCDC for more information.
The FCT Command of the agency alone, according to NSCDC spokesman Babawale Afolabi, could offer an official stance on the subject. The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, had not returned several calls at the time of publication.

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre’s (RULAAC) Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, responded to the occurrence by denouncing the hospitals’ failure to treat the victim in the absence of a police report.
“It is a serious failure of the policing and healthcare systems that a victim of violence was left to die while awaiting police paperwork,” Nwanguma stated.
“This is not only tragic, but it also clearly violates Nigerian law. Under the 2017 Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, all hospitals—public and private—must offer victims of gunshot wounds or life-threatening injuries prompt, appropriate care without requiring a police report as a matter of course.
