The Babanla hamlet in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area was ambushed by gunmen, who killed five people, including Adejumo Wasiu, a police officer.
Residents described the attackers’ abrupt and deadly onslaught as leaving a trail of fear and panic as they overran the community.
A fast response was made by deploying a team of Nigerian Army soldiers, police officers, Department of State Services (DSS) employees, and local vigilantes to find the perpetrators.
In order to avoid such attacks, several inhabitants were compelled to flee their houses due to the violence and sought safety in nearby settlements.
According to Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Kwara State Police Command’s spokesperson, the attack was confirmed on Sunday.
“Hundreds of armed criminals on motorcycles stormed into Babanla community in Ifelodun local government area on August 8, 2025, attacked the divisional police headquarters, and raided the market,” the statement adds.
Five persons, including Adejumo Wasiu, a police officer, were killed by the attackers’ intermittent firing. Police officers, members of the Nigeria Army, vigilantes, and local hunters responded quickly and with coordination to repel the onslaught, restore order, and launch a full-scale manhunt for the criminals.
According to the statement, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) Kwara State Command and Adekimi Ojo, the commissioner of police for the state, visited Babanla on-site to assess the security situation.

“His Royal Highness Oba Yusuf Aliyu Alabi Arojojoye II, Babanla’s traditional monarch, met with them.
“They convened high-level talks to fortify interagency and community-security cooperation and to enhance peace.” To make sure that calm had been completely restored, the combined security delegation visited several important sites in the neighborhood, such as the market, the divisional police headquarters, and the surrounding districts.
“Continuous armed patrols, ongoing intelligence collection, and the deployment of specialized tracking teams were all ordered by the Commissioner of Police. The DSS also promised ongoing intelligence assistance in order to capture all those responsible for the incident. The command restates its determination to protect people and property throughout Kwara State by working in tandem with sister security services. It is recommended that residents maintain composure, use caution, and assist security forces by giving accurate information.
