Edo APC Defends Record, Rejects PDP’s N3.51bn Travel Spending Accusation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman for Edo State, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, has reacted to the PDP’s most recent charge that the state government has spent an astounding N3.51 billion on travel over the past eight months.

The PDP’s accusations, according to Tenebe’s statement, have once again demonstrated their poverty and ignorance of more general economic indicators, which has had a detrimental effect on the people of Edo State throughout their eight years in power.

“For the record, since taking over from the PDP abstracted-MOU ‘419’ government on November 12, 2024, the APC administration led by His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo has shown financial prudence,” Tenebe said.

Due to the effects of substance abuse and post-election defeat syndrome, the governor has not taken a foreign trip since November 12, 2024, so accusing the current administration of squandering ₦3.51 billion on imaginable “travels” demonstrates that the six PDP renegades are clearly experiencing acute hallucinations linked to neurological disorders.

“Our party, the APC, would want to state publicly that Senator Okpebholo is a grassroots leader who is eager to find indigenous solutions to realign the various sectors for quantifiable progress as quickly as feasible.

Therefore, we urge state allies and Edo residents to disregard the baseless charges.

“The Edo State APC government is solely focused on the comprehensive development of the 18 local government districts in accordance with international best practices.

Tenebe declared that Governor Okpebholo would not carry on with his practice of embezzling state funds through phony globe trotting, which was evident during the previous PDP administration.

The state government was accused by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state chapter of carelessly spending ₦3.51 billion on a travel spree during its eight months in office.

The PDP expressed its indignation at the disclosure that the administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo wasted a startling ₦3.51 billion on travel in the first half of 2025, according to a statement released by Chris Osa Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary, Edo State Caretaker Committee.

This waste occurs at a time when the Capital Importation Report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveals that Edo State did not draw in any foreign investment, but states such as Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna, Kano, and even Ekiti were on the list. Edo’s officials are opening their wallets for indefinite travel, while other states are opening their doors to capital. This is a stark and embarrassing contrast.

The decent people of Edo State, who still have to put up with dilapidated schools, bad roads, insufficient medical facilities, delayed salary payments, and an epileptic power supply, are insulted by this careless spending.

“Edo’s leadership is wasting limited resources on trips that provide no real benefits, while other states are trying to draw in investment. This is unacceptable.”

“Ruling is not a jamboree. Being a leader requires vision, caution, and a dedication to putting the interests of the people before selfish pleasures.

“Edo State should have a government that prioritizes job creation, infrastructure development, and raising the standard of living for its people rather than embarking on extravagant travel at the expense of the public coffers.”

“We urge the state government to immediately stop this unnecessary spending, make the trip details public, and reroute such funds going forward to address the state’s massive infrastructure deficit.

“Edo people should be held accountable, not lavished with luxury.” “Results, not receipts, are what we demand,” Nehikhare said.
