Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa welcomed former Labour Party chairman Dayo Awude and a few other politicians from other parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, strengthening the party’s position in Ondo State.
Awude and his followers were formally welcomed to the APC by Governor Aiyedatiwa in the state capital’s Town Hall in Akure.
Additionally, the governor welcomed leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC session.
Awude is a well-known grassroots politician in the state, having served as a Commissioner and the PDP’s State Vice Chairman.
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the defectors on Sunshine Grassroots Network, explaining their excellent choices to join the state’s ruling party.
“In Ondo State, there is no space for coalition; there is only one APC,” stated Aiyedatiwa. People join political parties for a variety of reasons, but the party’s interest must always come before all other considerations. For the APC, that objective is maintaining power.
The governor claimed that both his own administration in Ondo State and the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had indicators of good governance.
“All of Ondo State is for President Tinubu come 2027, and these defectors’ decision to join us today is a strong step towards that goal,” stated Aiyedatiwa. You can be sure that by joining our party, we will increase our numbers and fortify the APC before the presidential election.
Using the current administration’s progressive values and development agenda as justification, Awude declared his switch to the APC.
He declared: “I promise Mr. Governor that he will see that I joined the APC to add value.” I implore every member of our party to go back to their wards and units in order to completely integrate.

“I am here to support President Bola Tinubu and the government of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in order to make progress.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership style was praised by Awude, who said it influenced his choice to work with the administration.
Thus, he promised to strive for the APC’s prosperity and unity in Ondo State.
Former Social Democratic Party (SDP) Secretary Dele Ogunbameru, another defector, revealed that he had encountered several difficulties in his previous organization.
He said he felt comfortable in the APC and joined the ruling party to share his extensive knowledge and assist advance it.
Engr. Ade Adetimehin, the APC’s state chairman, called Awude a man of potential and pointed out that real political strength starts at the unit and spreads to the ward.
“A politician is not a politician if he cannot deliver his unit and ward,” he declared. All of our new members are urged to strive for grassroots party strengthening.
“For this reason, I would like to formally welcome you to the APC on behalf of our National Chairman, and I hereby turn you over to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, our party’s leader in Ondo State.”
APC chieftains in attendance included the State Government’s Secretary, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Prince Segun Omojuwa, the Chief of Staff; Hon. Derin Adesida, a member of the House of Representatives representing Akure North/Akure South; Gbenga Fasua, the Chairman of the Akure South Local Government; members of the State Executive Council; and APC leaders.
