In its recent intense battle against insurgency in Borno State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has killed no fewer than 592 terrorists.
After the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, paid Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum a courtesy call, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Ejodame claims that in the last eight months, 372 enemy assets have been destroyed, exceeding the total number of operational achievements in 2024.
Air Marshal Abubakar described the effective offensive operations that struck important terrorist infrastructure while he was there. He disclosed that, deep within hostile territory, the airstrikes had destroyed 166 logistics hubs and 206 technical vehicles.
From Gonori to Rann, Dikwa to Damboa, and Azir to Mallam Fatori, the airstrikes covered a number of key areas.
The use of A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, which can conduct precision and night missions, Mi-171 helicopters for medical evacuation and logistics, and improved intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms for 24/7 target tracking have all contributed to the offensive, Abubakar said.
In order to improve close-air support for ground troops involved in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations, he also indicated the upcoming addition of a Mi-35 gunship.
Air Marshal Abubakar presented striking figures from the ongoing operations, emphasizing the NAF’s accelerated operational pace.
“In the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, NAF aircraft completed 798 combat sorties, logging over 1,500 operational flight hours, supported by an upgraded fleet and precision night-strike capabilities,” he stated.
He emphasized that this year’s air campaign was “faster, sharper, and more surgical,” aiming to eliminate any cell that poses a threat to the peace in the Northeast, as well as high-value terrorists and destroying their logistics.
As an effective tactic in the current counter-insurgency activities, the Chief of the Air Staff also praised the Borno Model, which blends decisive military action with community-driven non-kinetic measures.

According to him, this model was essential to the operation’s success.
In order to guarantee the mission’s success, Abubakar also met with ground and aircrew, visited several installations at the NAF Base, and received operational briefings.
In order to protect all Nigerians, he reiterated NAF’s dedication to interagency cooperation, intelligence-led operations, and precise air power.
Governor Babagana Zulum responded by thanking the Nigerian Air Force for its continuous and steadfast assistance in weakening the militants’ capabilities in the area.
He recognized the critical role the NAF plays in protecting Borno villages.
“Your operations have enabled our communities to start rebuilding and have saved countless lives,” Zulum stated.
He also emphasized that Borno’s citizens acknowledge the NAF’s sacrifices and remain steadfast in their support of them in their war on terror.
The NAF’s activities are viewed as a crucial element in the fight to bring stability back to the North-East, and the ongoing air support and military operations in Borno demonstrate a persistent commitment to regaining calm in the area.
