In Imo State, the PDP’s leadership issue has gotten worse when 83 members sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, the party’s state chairman, and other parties over the state congress’s behavior.
According to the plaintiffs, the congress that produced Nwachukwu and other officials on August 31, 2024, was “marred by exclusion and illegality,” and they argue that it broke both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act of.
The irate members, led by Lambert Eze, charged that the party had illegally excluded ideato North and Ideato South Local Government Areas’ validly elected delegates from the exercise.
They want to order the congress to be dissolved, prevent current officials from posing as executives, and mandate the conduct of a new democratic congress with all eligible delegates.

Ten additional parties, including the party’s interim leaders in Ideato North and South LGAs, Hon. Chris Ozoemenam and Hon. Dr. Sylvester Durukwuaku, as well as the PDP national body, have joined the lawsuit.
They filed the case through their attorney, K.U. Alisigwe of Ononaku Chambers, Owerri, with the filing number FHC/OW/CS/51/2025.
By calling the congress “illegal, null, and void,” the plaintiffs pleaded with the court to support their position and restore “the integrity of internal democracy in Imo PDP.”
