Oluwakemi Rufai of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area in Lagos State passed away just two weeks after assuming the position of Councillor for Ward C1.
After a brief illness, Rufai—the only woman in the council’s legislative arm—died early on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Her passing was a sad loss to the council and the community she served, according to separate statements from Ibeju-Lekki LGA Chairman Sesan Olowa and Lekki Local Council Development Area, LCDA Chairman Rasaki Kasali.

She is a “rising star within the APC,” according to party spokesman Seye Oladejo, whose leadership shown “commitment, grassroots service, and gender inclusion.”
Oladejo pointed out that despite her brief tenure, Rufai left a lasting effect because of her commitment to community development and adherence to the party’s ideals.
He said, “Her legacy of service, courage, and vision will not be forgotten,” and offered his condolences to her family, neighbors, and the Ibeju-Lekki community.
