The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has refuted reports that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Senator David Mark were ordered by an Abuja Federal High Court to refrain from serving as the party’s National Secretary and National Chairman, respectively.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement released Thursday that the rumors of a court order against the new leadership were the product of slanderers and false information propagandists.
The party argued that the Abuja Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, denied Nafiu Bala Gombe’s ex-parte application in its September 4, 2025, ruling. Instead, the court ordered the defendants to be placed on notice, appear to provide justification for their denial, and postpone the case until September 15, 2025.
“Desperate political jobbers who were disappointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to recognize the party’s leadership change are trying to mislead Nigerians and feed the media with fake news,” the ADC continued.
In its whole, the statement said:
Regarding the recent Federal High Court, Abuja, order regarding the leadership of our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would like to correct the misinformation that is currently making the rounds in the media.
In contrast to certain false reports, the court did not issue an order prohibiting Senators David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from serving as the ADC’s national chairman and secretary, respectively. Rather than granting Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe’s ex-parte application, the Honorable Court ordered that due process be followed.

The following four directives were explicitly mentioned in the September 4, 2025, verdict delivered by Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite:
1. That the September 2, 2025, application submitted by the Plaintiff/Applicant is denied.
2. That the Plaintiff/Applicant is instructed to notify the Defendants.
3. That in order to provide justification for the denial of the application, the defendants/respondents must appear before this Honorable Court.
4. For the Defendants/Respondents to provide justification, the case is postponed until September 15, 2025.
Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite, the presiding judge, officially signed and issued the order, and Federal High Court Registrar Kasope Kafayat Bola certified it.
“After failing to prevent INEC from recognizing the ADC leadership change, the political Jobbers are now turning to false information. This proves that these destabilization operatives would do whatever it takes to cause uncertainty and further weaken opposition parties, even if it means distorting court decisions.
“In this regard, the ADC leadership encourages the public and press to exercise caution and be wary of false reports and fake news that are typical of the ruling party and its operatives.”
