Opposition leaders, such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Anambra Governor Peter Obi, have effectively outmanoeuvred President Bola Tinubu’s administration with their political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise program on Friday, Momodu asserted that the opposition coalition’s strength had shocked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which was attempting to undermine parties by inciting internal strife.
He claimed that the APC’s decision to make Tinubu a consensus candidate in 2027 was a response to their concerns about a strong opposition.
He charged that in order to destabilize parties like the Labour Party, PDP, and NNPP, government officials purposefully formed factions within them.
Momodu revealed that the ADC organizers foresaw these strategies and acted proactively to protect the party’s organization from outside intervention.
Before revealing the ADC as their focal point, the opposition purposefully tricked the ruling party into believing they were siding with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or another up-and-coming platform, the media tycoon further disclosed.
He commended the ADC leaders’ tenacity, calling them “several steps ahead” of efforts to undermine the alliance.
“The ruling party is clearly nervous,” he remarked. In particular, the ruling party does not desire fierce competition in 2027. They prefer a single candidate and are not overly concerned about the governors or the others.
All political parties should unite and support a single individual, the president and commander in chief, if at all possible. Therefore, when the news surfaced yesterday that these men are headed to court, I wasn’t shocked.
“Everyone is aware of what is happening. Going to court if you feel wronged is perfectly acceptable. Thankfully, they should have been aware that the ADC conveners put in a great deal of effort behind the scenes to get us to where we are today.
They were slow. They were aware that government operatives would try to impose their will, as they have done in the past with Labour, the PDP, and the NNPP, causing divisions everywhere.
Therefore, you must honor the leaders and gentlemen who worked on ADC. They attempted to tighten all the screws because they are highly experienced individuals and well-known politicians. It was unexpected as well.

Everybody said, “Oh, it’s obvious the coalition or the opposition will go into SDP,” when Nasir El-Rufai announced his intention to join the party. “You could see they were doing abracadabra over time, and people thought they were going to SDP.” We then hear about ADA approximately a week prior to ADC. “Oh yes, we’re going to use a cutlass and everything,” people were saying. ADC then appeared out of nowhere.
Thus, I wasn’t surprised. I wasn’t shocked. The truth is that the actual stakeholders, who ought to be aware of everything meant to irritate ADC, are already in a lot better position than that frustration.
It’s unfortunate. It’s unfortunate that a civilian government would not want democracy to thrive after everything we endured during the military era. We can never predict the day when a few individuals will seek to take over this democracy for their own selfish gain, which is exactly what is occurring. Many people have died for it.
“As you can see, the PDP has been unable to advance. Furthermore, I don’t even claim that the PDP is currently in a condition of immobility. It’s even going in reverse. Every time they believe they have figured out a solution, one man will take the stage, sabotage it, and publicly brag that they can utilize INEC and the courts.
Since INEC and the attempt to exploit it have failed, the judiciary would be the next to collapse. And I’m hoping the judiciary will have the courage to do so. There is no reason for fear. To know that their children, grandkids, and other unborn will live in Nigeria, those in the judiciary should live for their legacy. In the event that Nigeria is destroyed, consider the people who have destroyed it in the past. Where are they now?
“Therefore, I will only make one appeal to the judiciary: resist their pressure and temptations.”
