The National Assembly lawmaker James Faleke, who represents the Ikeja Federal district, has taken action to help Kogi State farmers recover from the declines in food prices by giving them agricultural supplies valued at more over N150 million.

This was revealed on Saturday when Dr. Tunde Arosanyin, a consultant for Faleke’s agricultural initiative, trained and distributed agricultural supplies to farmers in Lokoja.

The Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology Lagos and Bright-tech Resources Limited collaborated on the project, according to Arosanyin.

Its goal is to assist farmers in recovering from the losses brought on by the recent decline in food prices, he emphasized.

Beginning in June of this year, Faleke’s project has been empowering farmers in Kogi’s three senatorial districts, he said.

He claimed that among other things, the scheme gave farmers access to cash assistance, seeds, liquid organic fertilizer, sprayers, herbicides, and other necessary inputs.

Arosanyin went on to say that the recipients also got training to increase their knowledge of other value chains, such as fisheries and cassava.

Additionally, the program will help 165 farmers from Kogi State’s three senatorial districts.

In other places, he said, “motorized boreholes are provided, and the project includes demonstration farms, with over 150 hectares of land cleared and prepared for farming.”

The current collapse in food prices has been a double-edged sword for farmers, Arosanyin emphasized.

While President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to lower food prices have benefited consumers, he claims that farmers are finding it difficult to turn a profit on their produce sales.

Faleke’s involvement was intended to tackle this issue and assist the state’s farmers, he emphasized.

“The initiative offers the farmers a number of advantages, such as training on optimal agronomic practices, which helps them become more productive and efficient.

“The beneficiaries get inputs and cash support, which helps them get over financial obstacles.
