Enyinnaya Abaribe, the senator from Abia South who represents the party in the National Assembly, has chastised members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for allegedly forming an alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The APGA’s Abia State chapter reportedly gave Abaribe a 24-hour ultimatum to clarify his alleged brotherhood with the ADC or face consequences in a statement signed by Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, the party’s publicity secretary, following its caucus meeting in Umuahia on Tuesday night.
Nobody would be a member of two political parties at the same time, the APGA told the former Senate Minority Leader, and they asked him to take a stand on the accusation of anti-party behavior.
The party said that at meetings at his Aba event center on August 18 and September 23, respectively, Senator Abaribe allegedly pushed ADC over APGA and challenged him to personally confirm or refute the rumors of his defection to ADC.
Following his use of the party’s platform to win a fifth term in the red chamber, Senator Abaribe was also charged with deserting the party and disparaging its leadership.
Speaking through his media assistant, Uchenna Awom, Abaribe responded in an interview with Vanguard that the party should stop focusing on rumors because it understood how to get the senator as its leader in the state.
It was unreasonable, in Awom’s opinion, for the party to give Abaribe an ultimatum without first speaking with him, based on unsubstantiated hints.
Sen. Abaribe is still alive, he declared. Since he is the APGA’s leader in Abia, the party has every avenue to reach him. They don’t bother him in any way. They should correspond with him and speak with him directly.
“He knows how to go about it as an experienced politician,” Awom responded when asked if Abaribe had indeed defected to ADC. Has he informed them that he no longer works for APGA? They do more than simply sit there and twist his arms to get words out.
