First lady Oluremi Tinubu has denied that the request for money to support the National Library’s completion on her 65th birthday is driven by politics.
Because of the influence the library had on her life as a teacher, Ms. Tinubu, through her spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, called for donations to help create the National Library.
Is there anything wrong with succeeding or working to develop our nation? If I could contribute to the Oluremi Tinubu Elementary and Junior Secondary School in Monte Serrado County, Liberia, to aid in the post-war reconstruction process, what would be wrong with highlighting some of the needs of our dear country?
“I have previously raised money for causes that are really important to me. The National Sickle Cell Foundation Center is now fully functioning, thanks to the ₦50 million I raised for it on my 45th birthday.
I raised ₦200 million for the New Era Foundation and other organizations on my 50th birthday. In this effort, I have contributed, and I think Nigerians can get the money required to finish the library. She declared, “This is a national treasure that will benefit future generations, not just a project.”
As the fund was still being calculated, the first lady added, the account will be kept open until December 2025 before being closed. To date, N20.7 billion has been donated by some willing Nigerians to help finish the project, she said.
The Ministry of Education and the National Library are the government agencies in charge of managing the account that was created for the donation, she continued.
Chinwe Anunobi, the chief librarian, and Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, are the signatories to the account, she claims. She maintained that she was responsible for helping to raise the money needed to finish the library.
