According to Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa State, he will not support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, even though they have a personal relationship.
Lamido asserts that speaking the truth to any candidate for president of Nigeria is perfectly acceptable and that every Nigerian has the right to run for office.
The former governor, who is also a well-known figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that lawmakers from different political backgrounds may still meet to talk about the country’s situation.
His personal relationship would not influence his dedication to the opposition parties’ objective of saving Nigeria and securing its progress, he pledged.
During a recent interview with the BBC, Lamido reportedly made the submission.
He made this statement after a recent public encounter with President Tinubu that caused a sensation in Nigerian political circles during the wedding of the son of former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari in Kaduna.
A visit to Lamido last week was also made by former vice president Atiku Abubakar, who is still pals with Tinubu.
Amidst these, the former governor stated that his relationship with the two individuals is not limited to their current political inclinations and has existed for many years.
When Atiku was the vice president, I served as the foreign affairs minister. Together, we founded the PDP. What is wrong with Nigerians gathering to talk about the situation in their nation? “What?” Lamido inquired.
Speaking about his recent public conversation and gist with President Tinubu, Lamido reaffirmed that mobilising Nigerians against Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government is his top priority. The two were spotted mingling during their meeting at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna last Friday.
“We haven’t seen each other in a long time, but we know each other very well, and he is now the President of Nigeria,” he remarked.

The PDP is aggressively striving to resolve its internal crisis and set itself up for success in upcoming elections, he said.
