In spite of obtaining a ₦5 million ransom from his distraught family and community in Kwara State, Reverend James Audu Issa, a pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), was brutally murdered by robbers.
It was discovered that the cleric was kidnapped from Ekati village in the Patigi Local Government Area on August 28, 2025.
In an attempt to secure his release, his family, church members, and the community banded together for weeks to raise the ransom.
The gunmen first sought ₦100 million for Issa’s release, according to Nupeko TV, an indigenous media outlet. The community painfully collected and turned over the ₦5m ransom after protracted talks.
However, the thieves apparently demanded an extra ₦45m after taking the ₦5m. They killed the preacher before new talks could start.
This violent deed, which is referred to as a ransom-for-murder scenario, highlights how vicious the bandit organizations that terrorize Kwara North are. The media platform stated in its broadcast that the pastor’s passing was a devastating blow to Ekati and the Patigi Emirate as a whole, especially in light of the community’s tremendous sacrifice.
The cleric’s death reportedly coincides with a wave of violent attacks in Kwara North.
A policeman named Ezra was kidnapped by bandits on the Patigi-Lade road on Thursday morning.
Ndanakun native Ezra was returning from night duty when an ambush occurred on his motorcycle. Ezra was overpowered and taken away, but his colleague managed to escape.
According to one source cited by SaharaReporters, “They were shooting guns sporadically.” The kidnapping underscores the boldness of armed groups operating in the Patigi and Edu LGAs.
Only twenty-four hours prior, two brothers were abducted from their cassava farm in Bokungi Zambufu, which was under the jurisdiction of Lafiagi Emirate.
Former National Association of Nupe Students (NANUS) president and well-known community leader Mohammed Mohammed was one of the fatalities.
According to witnesses, the two brothers were taken into custody as the gunmen invaded the farmland, opened fire, and drove the people away.
Farmers and villagers in Kwara North, where frequent kidnappings and murders are ruining agriculture and lives, are more terrified as a result of the attacks.
Leaders of the community blame officials for not living up to their rhetoric. “Our people are no longer able to visit their farms. One tenant complained, “We live in fear every day.”
Security services had not yet released a formal statement either the pastor’s murder or the most recent kidnappings as of the time of publication.
