The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will continue to dominate Plateau State, according to former Senate Minority Leader Senator Simon Mwadkwon, even if Governor Caleb Mutfwang leaves the state to run for governor in the 2027 election with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Before being removed by an Appeal Court ruling, Mwadkwon represented Plateau North Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He said that even if this were to happen, the APC would not be a threat because the state would still be a PDP state. There have been many rumors and permutations that Mutfwang might leave the PDP for the APC ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections.
The former senator, who made the audacious claim Thursday in Jos while speaking with a few media, also denied the suggestion that Mutfwang is one of four PDP governors who intend to join the ruling APC, echoing the governor’s recent denial of the rumors.
“Whether the governor stays in the party or not, the people of the state know that their love for the PDP is unmatched,” the former legislator stated. “Plateau is always a PDP state.”
Even if Gov. Mutfwang were to leave the party and run on a different platform, he said, the PDP would find a suitable substitute and the party would win. He advised Mutfwang to stay in the PDP because it is the only party that would be in his best interests.
“I don’t think the Plateau State Governor has any interest in joining the APC because he has repeatedly publicly denied any intention to do so. He hasn’t changed his mind on this matter in spite of multiple appeals,” Mwadkwon continued.
