According to Abia South Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the courts’ interpretation of the law, not the technology, is the issue with Nigeria’s electoral system.
He made this claim while arguing that the Nigerian judiciary has not kept up with the technological advancements brought about by INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He revealed this information on Monday during the Anthena Center’s review of INEC’s election technology innovation from 2015 to 2025 in Abuja.
Nobody, in my opinion, is opposed to innovation that would enhance the procedure. Not Enyinnaya Abaribe, if anyone.
“The new INEC procedure of direct results transmission actually benefits me. “Our judicial processes are years behind the innovations we are implementing, which is the key issue we need to look at, but most people are not paying attention,” he remarked.
He claims that the courts frequently ignore INEC instructions, which need to be regarded as a component of the election legislation.
