In Atan-Ota, Ogun State, a cult-related conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least three persons.
Due to the delicate nature of the situation, a security source who spoke on condition of anonymity stated that the Atan-Ota incident took place in the Kajola region on Monday night at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye fraternities were involved in the violent altercation, the insider said.
Allegedly committed by Aiye members, the attack was thought to be retaliation for the rival group’s previous murder of one of their members.
The source clarified that the attackers killed three individuals thought to be members of the Eiye cult group after invading the location and firing numerous bullets to cause panic.
A cult conflict arose between Aiye and Eiye. Some Eiye were slaughtered by the Aiye group. Before executing the victims, they created tension by firing intermittently when they invaded the location. According to the source, the murders are the result of an attack on an Aiye member that was carried out by Eiye members approximately two weeks ago.
Since Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police, had not yet responded to inquiries, attempts to reach her for comment were futile.
