According to an affidavit, John Chuma Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) candidate for governor of Anambra State in the November 8th election, has committed to serving only one term if elected.
The current governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, is from Isuofia in the Aguata Local Government Area, while Nwosu is from Nnewi in Anambra South, which is in the same zone.
Soludo is running for reelection while serving his first term.
The governorship zoning formula in Anambra is unwritten, but it encourages seat rotation among the three zones. In the beginning, Nwosu had promised to serve only one term in order to finish the southern zone’s remaining one term.
On Thursday, Nwosu went to the High Court in Awka and signed an affidavit promising to lead Anambra State for only four years.
The action has been seen as a daring and admirable move that demonstrates his determination to maintain accountability, openness, and selflessness in government.
After signing the affidavit, Nwosu spoke and reaffirmed that being a leader should not be about holding onto power but rather about achieving achievements in a precise, well-defined timeline.
“I came into the race to serve, not to rule,” he stated. The commitment has been legally sealed before the court after I previously made it in public. If there is a genuine desire to change Anambra, four years should be plenty.
