According to Ibrahim Abdullahi, the deputy national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigerians are now engaged in a political battle ahead of the 2027 election as a result of the recent wave of party defections.
Abdullahi was said to have made the remarks on Wednesday while answering questions on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” show.
He emphasized that the PDP’s determination to reconstruct the nation would not be weakened by the party defections, characterizing them as acts motivated by self-interest and avarice.
Abdullahi insisted that there was no legitimate reason why the governors elected on the PDP platform would leave the party, citing the resignation of Duoye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State.
“As we move closer to 2027, it’s not about PDP and APC anymore; it’s now APC against Nigerians,” he stated.
“To the best of my knowledge and that of Nigerians, there is no compelling reason why a governor, like the one in Bayelsa, would want to leave the party after serving out his second term. It’s just greed, avarice, and selfishness on the part of those departing.”
To the best of the PDP, bad garbage is being disposed of. We will emerge from our convention next month more united and ready to reclaim this nation from what we perceive to be an army of occupation posing as a democratic government if we can eliminate these factors beforehand.
The PDP spokesperson also bemoaned the country’s situation under the APC government, claiming that Nigerians have suffered a great deal over the previous ten years, particularly the last two.
