For pushing Abia State Governor Alex Otti to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senate President Godswill Akpabio has come under fire from the Labour Party’s leadership.
Akpabio reportedly commended Otti for his efforts to promote development in Abia State.
During Saturday’s celebration of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s 70th birthday, he expressed his admiration for Otti for paying tribute to the former deputy president in spite of their divergent political views.
He implied, nevertheless, that Otti would gain more notoriety if he joined the APC.
Best wishes, Governor. Although I have already begun to view your work, your membership in the Labour Party prevents me from standing here and praising you. You are still working, then. You will hear my words by the time you visit APC. I’ll tell you how much I appreciate you. “You will be celebrated,” Akpabio said.
In an interview with Punch on Sunday, Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary for the LP, said the Abia governor is loyal to the party and has no intention of switching allegiances.
Politicians are permitted to court other people in the political sphere. The APC is not the only party attempting to win Governor Alex Otti over. He has promised us that he is not leaving the Labour Party, though, according to the last time I checked,” Ifoh said.
He went on to highlight the LP’s accomplishments while drawing a comparison with the alleged shortcomings of states headed by the APC.

People’s continued interest in him indicates that the LP philosophy he represents is one that should be emulated. Our LP state is demonstrating a strong commitment to infrastructure, empowerment, and human development, while the majority of APC states have failed miserably. We think the Labour Party is the best option for Nigerians because of this,” Obiorah continued.
